Rameswaram Sub Center

Historical Connection
Rameswaram, one of the sacred Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Kshetras, occupies a unique and revered place in the spiritual heritage of India. This holy pilgrimage centre also shares a deep and inseparable connection with the Ramakrishna Movement. Long before the advent of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, his father, Sri Khudiram Chattopadhyaya, visited the Ramanathaswamy Temple and worshipped Lord Ramanathaswamy. He carried back a sacred Shiva Lingam from Rameswaram, which continues to be worshipped at Kamarpukur, the birthplace of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna.
The sacred association was further strengthened when Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi visited Rameswaram and offered worship to Lord Ramanathaswamy with 108 small golden bilva leaves specially prepared by Swami Ramakrishnananda. Following his triumphant return from the West, Swami Vivekananda first set foot on Indian soil near Rameswaram and delivered his historic address on "Real Worship," the inspiring message of which is engraved on a marble plaque at the entrance of the Ramanathaswamy Temple. In addition, five other direct disciples of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna also visited this sacred kshetra, making Rameswaram a place of immense spiritual significance for the Ramakrishna Order.
