Swami Vivekananda Sanskrit Learning Courses

Sanskrit is the divine language… Sanskrit is the language of God… Sanskrit and prestige go together in India… The very sound of Sanskrit words gives a prestige and a power and a strength to the race’, says Swami Vivekananda.

Many of us want to learn Sanskrit in order to study scriptures in the original and chant Sanskrit hymns and know their meanings also. In order to accomplish that, we have designed a one-year Sanskrit Course, called Vivekananda Sanskrit Course, details of which are given below. The Course will be conducted by competent teachers from Samskrita Bharati.

The “Vivekananda Samskrita Adhyayana Sarani” was started in collaboration with Samskrita Bharati as part of 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Swami Vivekananda. This course is offered in 3 levels, each for a period of 4 months.


Level 1 – To speak in Sanskrit and also understand simple Sanskrit Slokas
To be held on: 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday & Friday)
Time: 7.15 pm to 8.30 pm
Medium of Instruction: Sanskrit
Venue: Vivekananda Centenary Auditorium, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore
Donation: 700/- (Rupees Seven hundred only)
Age: Men & Women above 12 years
Course material (books) will be provided
Text Book: Bhasha Pravesh I
Examination (oral and written) will be conducted and Certificate will be issued.
90% attendance for appearing exam is mandatory

Level 2 – To read and understand Ramayana, Bhagavata and similar texts
To be held on: 2 days a week (Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday)
Text Book: Bhasha Pravesh II
Duration of the course, venue, time, medium of instruction and fees for Level 2 are the same as Level 1 given above.

Level 3 – To teach the Functional Sanskrit to Freshers
To be held on: 2 days a week (Monday & Wednesday)
Teacher’s Training Programme / Adv. Grammer
Duration of the course, time, medium of instruction and fees for Level 3 are the same as Level 1 given above.
