Sri Ramakrishna Math Chennai

The first branch center of Ramakrishna Order in South India

Significance of this Center

Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, is one of the oldest centres of the Ramakrishna Order. It is a sacred place with intense spiritual vibrations strengthened by Swami Ramakrishnananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna and the founder of this Math, and other great swamis who led holy lives of renunciation and spirituality. The Math has been sanctified by the visit of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Brahmananda, Swami Shivananda, Swami Abhedananda, and other such luminaries. The Math has been functioning as a place of meditation, worship, and service for the last 127 years.

The Math has two important dimensions: One is to provide solace to hundreds of people seeking inner peace beyond the hustle of daily life, especially in a city such as Chennai. The other is to provide unstinted and dedicated service to the needy in and around the city, with the attitude of ‘service of man is worship of God’.
